Akpabio Commissions Key Projects in Lagos, Urges States to Embrace Modern Development

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on states across Nigeria to take a cue from Lagos State in driving development and setting governance standards.

Speaking at the commissioning of three major projects executed by the Lagos State Government, Akpabio praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for demonstrating focus, discipline, and effective financial management. He stressed that governance should prioritise tangible service delivery to citizens.

Representing President Bola Tinubu at the event, Akpabio said the projects reflect the country’s broader vision of building a modern, digitally driven, and economically robust Nigeria. He urged other states to replicate Lagos’ development model.

The projects inaugurated include the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographical Information System (LAGIS) Building, and the Lagos State Multi-Agency Building.

In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu said his administration remains committed to accelerating development in its remaining 416 days in office. He pledged to increase investment in infrastructure, strengthen institutions, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.

According to him, the final phase of his administration is not a time to slow down but an opportunity to intensify efforts and deliver more impactful results.

Sanwo-Olu expressed pride in the achievements recorded over the past seven years under his THEMES+ agenda, noting that increased revenue allocations and strong federal support have enabled the state to pursue more ambitious projects.

He added that his administration has spent over 2,500 days working to improve Lagos and remains focused on leaving a lasting legacy before handing over power.
