The Best Campaign Is Performance: A pot of porridge may satisfy hunger for a day, but good leadership sustains a people for years.

In everyday life, people are naturally drawn to results rather than promises. A trader relies on a supplier who delivers consistently. A community respects individuals whose actions bring visible change. In the same way, leadership should be assessed through tangible impact, not mere declarations or fleeting gestures. When roads are rehabilitated, schools function effectively, and livelihoods improve, persuasion becomes unnecessary. Performance, in itself, becomes the most credible campaign.

It is often said that a pot of porridge may satisfy hunger for a day, but good leadership sustains a people for years. This simple yet profound truth resonates deeply with lived experience. Temporary relief may address immediate needs, but it does not secure the future. What truly matters is sustainable development, structured opportunities, and policies that create lasting value.

Yet, within many communities, there is a growing culture of inducement, where short-term offerings begin to influence long-term decisions. It may appear harmless, even justifiable in difficult times, but it gradually shifts attention away from competence and accountability. As the saying goes, “What cannot be defended with results often seeks validation through incentives.” This is where caution becomes necessary.

For the ordinary citizen, the responsibility is both practical and significant. Just as one would not entrust a business to an unproven hand, the same principle should guide decisions about leadership. Choices must be rooted in evidence, track record, and credibility. As it is often said, “When the vote is sold, the voice is silenced.” What is exchanged in the moment may cost far more in the future.

A society that becomes accustomed to appeasement risks lowering its standards over time. Expectations begin to decline, and in turn, leadership quality diminishes. Competence is gradually overshadowed by convenience, and genuine progress becomes more difficult to attain. The consequences are felt across all levels, from small business owners to young people striving for stability.

It is therefore essential to adopt a more deliberate and discerning approach. Simple but critical questions must guide decisions. What has been achieved. What impact has been made. What vision is being pursued. These considerations offer far greater value than any immediate benefit placed before the people.

Beyond the practical implications, there is also a moral dimension. Society is shaped not only by systems but by the values people choose to uphold. As it is often said, “Evil prospers when good people choose convenience over conscience.” The willingness to stand by what is right, even when it is difficult, remains a defining mark of responsible citizenship.

In the final analysis, both leaders and citizens share the responsibility of preserving the integrity of the system. Let leadership be anchored on verifiable performance rather than inducement. Let citizens exercise their voice with clarity, conviction, and foresight. For the future is ultimately shaped by the decisions made today, and it is far too valuable to be traded for momentary gain.
