Abia Govt Mourns Slain Trailer Driver, Seeks Justice Over Aba Shooting

The Abia State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Kelechi Ejiofor, a trailer driver who was fatally shot in an incident involving a soldier at the Uratta Timber Market in Aba.

In a statement issued on April 13, 2026, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, described the incident as tragic and untimely, noting that it has plunged the state into grief. He extended condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the deceased.

The government disclosed that it is already engaging with the Military High Command to ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Kanu assured the public that justice would be served, stressing that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary and legal actions.

He also called on residents to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while authorities work to uncover the facts of the incident.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, upholding the rule of law, and safeguarding the rights of all citizens, adding that it remains resolute in ensuring that no act of injustice goes unanswered.
