Tributes have continued to pour in for prominent Niger Delta leader, Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, as he marks his 55th birthday.
Among those who honoured him is Dr. Denge Josef Onoh, a former South-East spokesman to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described Tompolo as a symbol of courage, vision, and unwavering commitment to his people.
In a statement commemorating the milestone, Onoh praised Tompolo’s lifelong dedication to the Niger Delta cause and his contributions to national development. He noted that Tompolo’s rise from the Gbaramatu Kingdom reflects resilience and a strong connection to his cultural roots.
Onoh also highlighted the leader’s respect for tradition, referencing his annual visits to the sacred Aziza Forest as a reflection of his deep spiritual and cultural values.
Commending Tompolo’s transition from militant activism to institutional engagement, Onoh pointed to his leadership of Tantita Security Services. He credited the organisation with helping to secure oil pipelines, curb economic sabotage, and create employment opportunities for youths across the region.
“Your journey from the creeks to becoming a powerful voice for the Niger Delta is remarkable,” Onoh said, adding that Tompolo’s advocacy helped draw national attention to issues of marginalisation and resource control.
He further applauded Tompolo’s philanthropic efforts and community development initiatives, noting that his influence extends beyond the Niger Delta.
According to Onoh, Tompolo exemplifies effective leadership through tangible achievements such as promoting peace, empowering communities, and fostering regional stability. He also described him as a bridge-builder in Nigeria’s complex socio-political landscape, offering hope for unity anchored on justice and mutual respect.
As Tompolo celebrates his 55th birthday, Onoh prayed for his continued strength, wisdom, and good health, expressing confidence that he will sustain his contributions to peace and development.
Tompolo remains a key figure in the history of Niger Delta agitation and subsequent peace-building efforts, maintaining a strong voice in both regional and national affairs.
