A non-profit organisation, Straight Child Foundation, has provided medical care for 106 children born with clubfoot across multiple states in Nigeria within the month of March.
The intervention, carried out through a network of 23 specialised clinics in 12 states, focused largely on infants, with a significant majority of the beneficiaries identified and enrolled before their first birthday. This early intervention is considered critical for effective correction of the condition.
Programme coordinator Uchenna Egbe Eni explained that each child underwent several stages of treatment, including repeated casting sessions followed by a minor surgical procedure known as tenotomy. Most of the patients successfully received the procedure, in line with global treatment standards.
The foundation also recorded low dropout rates during the treatment process, indicating improved patient retention. To maintain quality service delivery, the group conducted monitoring visits, staff training, and support programmes at partner health facilities across different locations.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve access to corrective care for children with clubfoot and reduce long-term disability through timely medical intervention.
