Israel and Lebanon have entered a 10-day ceasefire effective Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 5 p.m. EST, following U.S.-brokered diplomatic efforts.

The announcement was made by U.S. President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform, where he described the development as the 10th conflict he has “resolved” during his presidency. According to him, the breakthrough came after direct talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

The temporary truce comes on the heels of a meeting held Tuesday in Washington, marking the first formal diplomatic engagement between Israel and Lebanon in 34 years. To oversee the process, Trump has tasked Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio with working alongside military officials to push for a more lasting peace agreement.

Despite the optimism from the White House, global observers remain cautious, noting that the 10-day ceasefire will be a crucial test of both nations’ willingness to move from a temporary halt in hostilities toward a sustainable resolution.
