Nigeria Listed Among Countries with High Volume of Global Cybercrime Complaints

Nigeria has been identified as one of the countries featuring in the top 20 globally for cybercrime-related complaints, according to recent international data compiled from global law enforcement reporting systems.

The report shows that thousands of cybercrime complaints were filed worldwide over the past year, reflecting a sharp rise in online fraud, identity theft, and digital financial scams across multiple regions.

While countries such as Canada, India, and Japan recorded higher complaint volumes, Nigeria’s inclusion in the ranking highlights its continued exposure to cyber-enabled criminal activity within its digital and financial space.

Analysts say the trend is linked to the rapid expansion of internet usage, online financial transactions, and digital platforms, which have also created opportunities for cybercriminal exploitation.

Authorities globally, including the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Centre, noted that total reported losses from cybercrime have continued to rise significantly, exceeding tens of billions of dollars in recent years as online fraud becomes more sophisticated.

Experts emphasize the need for stronger cybersecurity systems, increased public awareness, and improved international cooperation to reduce the growing impact of cybercrime across affected countries.
