The Abia State Government has intensified efforts to upgrade its transport network with plans to introduce a modern railway system as part of broader infrastructure development across the state.

Officials say discussions with the Nigerian Railway Corporation have progressed significantly, with arrangements in place for a new train station to be constructed in Umuahia. The facility is expected to be linked with other transport systems to improve movement within the state capital and surrounding areas.

The proposed rail hub is designed to function as part of a larger urban renewal plan, combining transport services with commercial and business activities to boost economic activity in the area.

Government representatives also revealed that access roads and supporting infrastructure will be developed to ensure smooth connectivity between the rail station, bus terminals, and nearby communities.

The railway initiative is one of several ongoing projects under the administration’s wider agenda to modernize transportation, expand urban development, and improve public infrastructure across Abia State.
