The Abia State Government has carried out a fresh reorganisation of the governing board of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, introducing new leadership as part of efforts to strengthen the institution’s administration.
At the centre of the changes is the appointment of Dr. Mrs. Ezinne Kalu, spouse of Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who has been selected to head the newly constituted board.
The restructuring, approved by Governor Alex Otti, also includes the nomination of several other individuals to serve in different capacities on the board, marking a significant overhaul of the hospital’s management framework.
Officials say the move is aimed at improving governance, boosting efficiency, and repositioning the medical facility for better service delivery. The hospital, a key healthcare institution in the state, has in recent years faced operational and administrative challenges, prompting calls for reform.
While the government has not released extensive details on the selection process, the appointments are seen as part of broader efforts by the current administration to revamp public institutions across the state.
Observers note that the inclusion of new figures in the board signals a shift in leadership strategy, with expectations that the reconstituted team will drive reforms and restore confidence in the hospital system.
