The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has expressed strong concern over what it describes as repeated attacks on livestock in Plateau State, accusing armed groups linked to the Berom community of deliberately poisoning cattle.
The association warned that such incidents are no longer acceptable, stressing that the destruction of livestock directly threatens the survival of pastoral families whose livelihoods depend heavily on their herds. It called on authorities to take swift and decisive action to halt the trend and bring those responsible to justice.
According to the group, several cases of cattle poisoning have been recorded in recent times, worsening tensions in already fragile communities. MACBAN noted that continued inaction could further escalate conflicts, as affected herders may be pushed toward retaliation.
The association urged security agencies to intensify surveillance in vulnerable areas and ensure that perpetrators are identified and prosecuted. It also appealed for measures that would protect both lives and economic activities, emphasizing the need for lasting peace in the region.
