The Federal Government has stepped up efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital security as concerns grow over increasing cyber threats targeting individuals, businesses, and critical systems.

As part of the renewed push, authorities are planning to work closely with private sector players and industry experts to build a more coordinated defence structure. Central to this plan is the proposed creation of a National Cybersecurity Coordination Council, which will serve as a hub for managing and responding to cyber risks across the country.

Officials say the initiative is aimed at protecting Nigeria’s expanding digital economy, ensuring safer online transactions, and boosting confidence among users and investors. The move reflects a broader recognition that cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated and frequent, requiring stronger collaboration and faster response mechanisms.

By bringing together key stakeholders, the government hopes to improve intelligence sharing, enhance preparedness, and reduce vulnerabilities in both public and private digital infrastructure.

The latest development signals a more proactive approach by authorities to secure the nation’s cyberspace and safeguard economic activities increasingly driven by technology.
