The people of Ozara Community in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State have appealed to leaders of the All Progressives Congress to support the emergence of Hon. Deacon Obioma Okorie as the party’s candidate for the Oru West State Constituency seat in the 2027 Imo State House of Assembly election.
The appeal followed a unanimous vote of confidence passed on Hon. Deacon Obioma Okorie by stakeholders and members of the community, who described him as a loyal party man with the capacity, credibility and grassroots support needed to represent Oru West effectively.
In a statement jointly signed by the Secretary General of the Ozara Progressive Union (OPU), Ewurum C. Ezenwa, and the President General, Kingsley Ibeabuchi Azarama, the community said Hon. Obioma Okorie has remained consistent in his commitment to the growth of the APC and the development of Oru West over the years.
The statement noted that despite Ozara Community’s longstanding support for the APC and its candidates, the community has yet to produce a member of the Imo State House of Assembly. It therefore appealed to party leaders to consider the principles of fairness, inclusion and equity in the selection of the party’s candidate for the constituency.
According to the community leaders, Hon. Obioma Okorie has distinguished himself through years of humanitarian service, grassroots mobilization and unwavering loyalty to the APC. They further stated that his relationship with the people and growing acceptance across Oru West position him as a strong contender capable of strengthening the party’s chances in the 2027 election.
The community also highlighted his contributions to social development, including educational support, empowerment initiatives and community projects, describing him as a leader who has consistently identified with the needs of the people even without occupying public office.
The statement further emphasized that supporting Hon. Obioma Okorie’s aspiration would not only reward loyalty and sacrifice, but would also promote unity and a stronger sense of belonging among party faithful in Oru West.
Political observers believe the endorsement reflects the increasing momentum surrounding Obioma Okorie’s aspiration and the desire among many grassroots supporters for broader inclusion in the political leadership of the constituency.
The people of Ozara Community expressed optimism that the APC leadership would give thoughtful consideration to their appeal as consultations and political realignments ahead of the 2027 election continue across the state.
