Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has joined millions of Nigerians and world leaders in mourning the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away earlier today at the age of 82.

In an emotional tribute released from his country home in Uturu, Abia State, Dr. Ogah described Buhari as “a disciplined, visionary and selfless leader who served Nigeria with unwavering commitment.”

“I am deeply pained by the loss of a man I had the honour of serving under – a leader who redefined integrity in public service. President Buhari was not just a statesman, but a father figure to many of us. His love for Nigeria was pure, his vision clear, and his dedication unquestionable,” Ogah said.

Dr. Ogah, who served in President Buhari’s cabinet between 2019 and 2023, praised the late president’s efforts in reforming the mining and solid minerals sector, recalling his personal encouragement and support during difficult reform decisions.

“He believed strongly in diversifying Nigeria’s economy through the mining sector. I witnessed first-hand how deeply he cared about transforming Nigeria beyond oil. His guidance gave me the courage to pursue policy reforms that today are yielding fruits,” Ogah noted.

While expressing condolences to the Buhari family and the people of Katsina State, Dr. Ogah called on Nigerians to honor the late president’s legacy by upholding values of discipline, honesty, and national unity.

“This is a painful moment for our nation, but also a time to reflect on the principles he lived for. May his soul find eternal rest, and may Nigeria never forget the sacrifices he made for her progress,” he concluded.

Dr. Uche Ogah, a renowned industrialist and political leader was known to have maintained a close working relationship with President Buhari during and after their time in government.

President Buhari’s burial is expected to take place in Daura in accordance with Islamic rites, with national honors to follow.
