Davido Honoured by Ohuhu Youths for Reviving Bright Chimezie’s Musical Legacy

Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has received an Honorary Youth Recognition Award from the youths of Ohuhu-Umuahia in Abia State. The award celebrates his instrumental role in revitalizing the career of highlife music legend, Bright Chimezie.

The presentation was made on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Umuahia by media entrepreneur and philanthropist, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe (popularly known as Don Lulu), on behalf of the youth group.

Speaking on the occasion, Ohuhu Youth President, Chief Uchenna Gavin Iheanacho, commended Davido’s collaboration with Bright Chimezie, which he said reignited national interest in the veteran musician’s body of work. He described Davido as “A true Friend Of Ohuhuland” for honoring cultural heritage and promoting musical excellence.

“We are proud to recognize Davido for spotlighting one of our own. His actions have helped reconnect the younger generation with the richness of our highlife tradition,” Iheanacho stated.

Originally scheduled to be presented during Don Lulu’s birthday concert, the award ceremony was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The youth leadership later entrusted Don Lulu with the responsibility of presenting the award to Davido on their behalf.

In response, Mayor Igbokwe thanked the youths for the thoughtful recognition and praised Davido’s consistent efforts in uplifting both emerging and veteran Nigerian artists. “Davido has shown he is more than a global music icon — he is a bridge between generations. This honour is truly well-deserved,” he said.
