Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, has strongly criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him and his coalition allies of trying to destabilize and take over the ADC.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Kachikwu expressed deep concern over Atiku’s alleged interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election under the ADC platform, describing it as hypocritical. According to him, Atiku has consistently demonstrated opposition to power rotation to the South and has no genuine belief in a Southern presidency.

Kachikwu claimed that some state chairmen of the party were offered as much as ₦20 million each to step down, in what he described as a desperate attempt by Atiku’s associates to forcefully seize control of the party. He stated that these individuals were not genuine members of the ADC but political opportunists seeking to revive their relevance and fortunes at the expense of the party’s integrity.

He accused the coalition of staging phony decampments and using propaganda to mislead the public, emphasizing that the ADC “is not for sale.” Kachikwu dared Atiku to publicly declare support for power to remain in the South and warned that the ADC would not serve as a political retirement home for failed politicians. He reaffirmed that the party is committed to promoting new leadership, fresh ideas, and a progressive vision for Nigeria.
