Several people were feared dead on Friday night after a tipper lost control and ploughed into bystanders at Chisco Park Junction in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, the Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Mrs. Margaret Onabe, said the sector command was still compiling details of the crash. She assured that more information would be made available as soon as the investigation was concluded.

Eyewitnesses told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the accident happened around 9:30 p.m. They explained that the tipper driver experienced brake failure and, while struggling to regain control, veered off the road and ran into pedestrians, resulting in multiple casualties.

According to one eyewitness, many of the victims were roadside traders, motorcyclists, and passengers waiting to board vehicles. “The victims, who were engaged in their usual night activities, did not see the tipper coming,” the witness said, adding that CCTV footage has confirmed the harrowing incident.
