The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State University chapter, has affirmed that its ongoing strike, which commenced on July 11, remains in effect and has not been suspended.

In a statement released on Monday, the union’s chairman, Ahmed Karage, clarified that despite the Yobe State Government’s recent implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage in July, several critical issues remain unresolved.

Karage emphasized that the strike would not be called off until a formal agreement is signed between the union and the state government. Among the union’s outstanding demands are the implementation of staff promotions as approved by the university council, the payment of promotion arrears from 2018 to 2025, and unpaid arrears from the minimum wage adjustment covering 2019 to 2024.

Additionally, the union is demanding payment of the 35–25% salary award for professors and other academic ranks from 2023 to 2025, as well as the outstanding ₦70,000 minimum wage arrears from January 2024 to June 2025.

The union appealed for public understanding, assuring that the strike would be suspended once all its demands are adequately addressed.
