Eti-Osa Council Renames Six Streets Amid Lagos-Wide Controversy

In the midst of growing controversy over recent street renaming exercises in Lagos, the Eti-Osa Local Government Area has announced the official renaming of six streets within its jurisdiction. This initiative is part of a broader campaign involving street name validation and updating efforts currently underway in several parts of the state.

The announcement follows public outrage stemming from a similar exercise in Bariga LCDA, where former chairman Kolade Alabi renamed streets, including the widely recognized Charly Boy Bus Stop, which was changed to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop. The move drew sharp criticism from several citizens and public figures, most notably human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), who labelled it unconstitutional and lacking proper public engagement.

In a public notice released on Friday, signed by Council Manager Mrs. Oluwakemi Oshun, the Eti-Osa council declared that the newly assigned street names are now effective. Residents, businesses, and institutions were urged to update official records and addresses to reflect the changes promptly. The council emphasized that the initiative is aimed at boosting cultural relevance, aiding navigation, and strengthening urban identity systems.

The renamed streets include: Tony Amadasun Road (Igbo Efon) now Chief Femi Pedro Road; Dr. Udo Wogu Drive (Chevy View) now Chief Adebola Dosunmu Drive; Augusta Orji Street (Aro Ologolo Road) now Alhaji Adio Mayegun Street; Chike Mba Close (Osapa London) now Hon. Sikiru Ashorota Close; Ugochukwu Orji Street (Igbo Efon) now Barr. Wale Sanni Street; and Fubara Dublin Green Street (Igbo Efon) now Rafiu Olukolu Street.
