The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended two pilots from domestic carrier ValueJet after they violated critical safety protocols at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the NCAA confirmed that the pilots initiated departure procedures without obtaining mandatory pre-departure clearance. The agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, described the act as “reckless,” stating that it endangered ground staff and other airport users while violating aviation regulations.

“The Authority views this breach with utmost seriousness and has taken swift action,” Achimugu said.

As a result, the NCAA immediately suspended the licenses of Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba pending a full investigation.

Reaffirming its commitment to safety, the NCAA assured stakeholders and the public that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward violations of aviation safety standards.
