Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has urged the Ohanaeze Youth Council to partner closely with the state government to foster sustainable development and promote the emergence of credible leaders. He made this call during a courtesy visit by the youth group to his office at the Government House, Umuahia.
Emetu emphasized that the objectives of the Ohanaeze Youth Council in Abia align with the developmental agenda of the Governor Alex Otti-led administration. He noted that the youth, who make up 60% of the population, are critical stakeholders in the state’s progress. The Deputy Governor assured the group of the government’s readiness to collaborate with them, citing the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and good governance.
He also revealed the state’s plans for an industrial innovation park, which boasts the largest gas deposit in the region. According to him, the project will attract investors, create job opportunities for the youth, and help curb insecurity by addressing unemployment-driven restiveness.
In his remarks, Comrade Eugene Okonta JP, Chairman of the Abia State chapter of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, praised the cordial relationship between the Deputy Governor and Governor Alex Otti. He reaffirmed the youth group’s support for the administration and called for more youth-centric policies to further drive development.
Also speaking, Mr. Authority Micheal Ukpabi, National Publicity Secretary of the Ohanaeze Youth Council and Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on Media, highlighted the Council’s mission to protect the interests of Igbo youth globally. He stressed their commitment to eliminating poor leadership and noted that the progress in Abia under Governor Otti has energized youth engagement, with the Abia chapter of the Council leading efforts to revive activities at the grassroots level.
Ukpabi concluded by expressing the Council’s unwavering support for both the Deputy Governor and Governor Otti, pledging to promote the continuity of their reform-driven administration.
