The Director of the NYSC South East Area Office II, Imo, Mr. Andrew Jebo Zemoh, has called on corps members serving in Abia State to create meaningful and lasting impacts in their host communities while embracing and respecting the local cultures.
Mr. Zemoh made the call on Thursday, August 7, 2025, during his official visit to the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream I corps members currently undergoing their orientation course at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.
Addressing the corps members, Mr. Zemoh congratulated them on the successful completion of their academic pursuits and reminded them that the orientation camp is a regimented environment where discipline is paramount. He encouraged them to respect camp officials and recognize the leadership responsibilities now placed upon them.
He further advised the corps members to foster healthy interactions and build meaningful relationships, while also urging them to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. Mr. Zemoh emphasized the importance of staying engaged during training sessions and noted that NYSC is collaborating with financial institutions to offer start-up capital to corps members with viable business ideas, especially in ICT.
On security, the Director warned against embarking on night journeys or engaging in risky behavior, stressing that corps members are not above the law and must conduct themselves responsibly. He also cautioned against the misuse of social media, urging them to use it to promote the NYSC scheme positively and to respect the uniform.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Zemoh charged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC, both during and after their service year.
Earlier in her address, the NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Barr. (Mrs.) Gladys Adama, reported that the corps members have shown a high level of discipline and are responding positively to camp directives.
Highlights of the visit included a facility tour of the camp, a cultural dance performance by the corps members, and the presentation of cash gifts to various groups by the Director.
