The Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) has distanced itself from a viral sex scandal involving a retired Director of Finance and two former female staff, stressing that those implicated are no longer in its employment.

In a statement issued on Friday by its Head of Media and Public Relations, Iyke Onuegbu, the Commission said it does not tolerate immoral conduct and cannot be held accountable for the private affairs of individuals outside official duties.

The Commission clarified that the alleged incidents took place years ago, involving persons who have since left its service, and that the former director at the centre of the controversy retired long ago.

While confirming that an internal investigation would be carried out in line with public service rules, ASOPADEC assured that any current staff found complicit in misconduct would face appropriate sanctions.

“At the inception of the new administration, frantic efforts were made to clean the mess of the past, and the Commission is now being run with zero tolerance for misconduct or acts inimical to its operations,” the statement read.

The Commission urged the public and media to consider the context and timing of the allegations, warning against unfairly tarnishing its present reputation over past events. It reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, professionalism, and delivering on its mandate to Abia’s oil-producing communities.

“We urge the public to judge ASOPADEC by our ongoing reforms, transparency, and service delivery – not by incidents from a bygone era,” the statement concluded.

The scandal reportedly involves two women, both former employees of the Commission, alleged to have engaged in multiple sexual acts with the retired director, some of which were filmed. One, a former secretary to the director, was accused of maintaining a sexual relationship with him despite being married to his brother, while the other, a former payroll officer, was allegedly recorded in similar encounters.

Sources claim both women have gone into hiding since the videos surfaced, with one believed to have relocated to Lagos.
