De Lille to Brief Parliament on Dissolution of SA Tourism Board

Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille will on Tuesday appear before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Tourism to explain her decision to dissolve the South African Tourism (SAT) Board.

De Lille announced last month that the Board had acted improperly when it convened a special meeting in early August without a chairperson and placed Chief Executive Officer Nombulelo Guliwe on precautionary suspension. The minister cited failure to follow due process as the reason for disbanding the body.

During her appearance, De Lille is expected to outline the circumstances surrounding Guliwe’s suspension, the process of appointing a new Board, and the findings of a forensic report that informed her decision.

The committee has previously expressed concern over the governance issues at SAT, which play a critical role in shaping South Africa’s global tourism image.
