Ex-LP Governorship Candidate Rhodes-Vivour Joins ADC, Calls for Opposition Unity Ahead of 2027

Former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urging opposition parties to close ranks in the run-up to the 2027 general elections.

Rhodes-Vivour made the announcement on Saturday at an event in Alimosho Local Government Area, where opposition leaders reaffirmed the ADC’s role as a rallying platform for a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I am happy to become part of this family. I’m looking forward to the union and governance that this party will bring to Nigerians,” he said. “This coalition is meant to rescue Nigeria. Since the 2023 elections, I have said we cannot afford to divide the opposition ahead of 2027.”

He stressed the need for a strong and coordinated coalition to challenge what he described as entrenched political dominance sustained by “thuggery, violence, and intimidation.” According to him, unless political violence is tackled, meaningful governance will remain elusive for ordinary Nigerians.

Lagos ADC Chairman, George Ashiru, welcomed Rhodes-Vivour’s defection, describing it as a significant step toward building a broader opposition movement capable of reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
