The NNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of NNPC Ltd., has extended its Vulnerable Farmers Training Programme to Northern Nigeria in a bid to strengthen food security, stimulate economic empowerment, and promote national development.

The second phase of the initiative will cover the North-East, North-West, and North-Central zones, with training sessions scheduled in six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The programme focuses on modern agricultural practices, including climate-smart farming, organic fertilization, post-harvest loss reduction, and market access strategies.

The first phase, which took place across the South-East, South-South, and South-West regions, empowered over 4,000 farmers with improved knowledge and techniques, recording notable success.

Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, said the initiative supports the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation agenda by boosting productivity and improving smallholder farmers’ livelihoods.

“At NNPC Ltd, we recognize that agriculture remains the main source of livelihood for over 70 per cent of Nigerians. Yet many farmers are trapped in subsistence production due to limited access to modern techniques, quality inputs, and competitive markets. This training is designed to change that narrative,” she said.

Arukwe stressed that the ultimate goal is to equip farmers with the knowledge and resources to transition from subsistence to sustainable, commercial-scale farming.
