The Abia State House of Assembly has confirmed the nomination of Mr. Chiemela Uzoije and Dr. Salome Obiukwu as commissioner designates in the state.

Their confirmation followed an earlier nomination by Governor Alex Otti and subsequent screening by the lawmakers.

Announcing the development during plenary on Thursday, Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa stated that the two nominees had been duly screened at the Executive session of the House and found qualified for appointment as commissioners.

The Speaker had earlier read a letter from Governor Otti forwarding their names to the Assembly and requesting legislative approval.

In addition to the commissioners, the House also confirmed Mrs. Virginia Igbanibo as Deputy Clerk of the Abia State House of Assembly. Igbanibo had been serving in the capacity in an acting role before her confirmation.

The House, which reconvened after its annual recess, later adjourned plenary to resume again on September 30.
