No fewer than 100,000 trainees in the Industrial Training Fund’s (ITF) Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) programme are set to undergo a crucial soft skills proficiency examination on Wednesday.

The test, which will be administered by the Chartered Institute of Project Management of Nigeria (CIPMN), will assess competencies in project management, occupational health and safety, and professional ethics. These modules are designed to elevate Nigerian artisans to global standards.

The Director-General of the ITF, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, stated that the goal is to build a indigenous workforce capable of competing internationally. He emphasized that internationally accredited certifications are key to reducing unemployment and equipping artisans with marketable skills.

Dr. Ogun revealed that the ITF’s certification framework includes partnerships with foreign bodies like City & Guilds London, with advanced discussions ongoing with ALBERK QA TECHNIC of Turkey. These alliances will allow Nigerian artisans to earn credentials that open doors to job opportunities abroad, potentially exporting skilled labour and attracting foreign exchange.

The SUPA programme involves a three-tiered training structure, culminating in certifications for successful trainees. The DG commended CIPMN for its steadfast partnership in implementing the initiative.
