Russia Warns NATO and EU of ‘Decisive Response’ to Any Aggression

Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has warned NATO and the European Union that any act of aggression against Moscow will be met with a “decisive response.”

Speaking at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Lavrov dismissed accusations that Russia was planning to attack NATO or EU countries. He insisted that President Vladimir Putin had repeatedly refuted such claims, describing them as “provocations.”

The warning comes amid heightened tensions along NATO’s eastern flank. Estonia recently accused Moscow of violating its airspace with three fighter jets, while NATO forces shot down Russian drones over Polish territory.

The United States has also toughened its stance. President Donald Trump said this week he supported shooting down Russian aircraft that breach NATO airspace, ridiculing Moscow’s military performance in Ukraine and calling it a “paper tiger.” Washington further reaffirmed its commitment to defend “every inch” of NATO territory at the UN Security Council.

Lavrov, who has served as Russia’s top diplomat for more than 20 years, criticised what he described as reckless rhetoric from Western politicians warning of a possible World War Three. He argued such remarks undermine efforts to achieve a fair balance of interests within the international community.

On Wednesday, Lavrov held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the UNGA, though details of their discussions were not disclosed.
