The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has accused senior Federal Government officials of diverting statutory allocations meant for the state’s 30 local government councils into accounts allegedly operated by sacked All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen and councillors.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, NULGE described the action allegedly involving the Minister of Finance, the Accountant General of the Federation, and the Attorney General of the Federation as “an unprecedented abuse of power” and “a flagrant violation of due process.”

The union alleged that since March 2025, federal authorities have been channeling funds into accounts said to have been opened with the United Bank for Africa (UBA) by APC officials removed from office by court judgments.

“This development is scary and alarming,” NULGE stated. “Paying public funds into privately controlled accounts is both unbelievable and unprecedented in Nigeria’s public administration.”

NULGE recalled that the Federal High Court, in a ruling delivered on May 15, 2025, ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit an order duly acknowledged by the Central Bank of Nigeria. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on Monday, September 29.

The union maintained that both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal had removed the APC officials from office, paving the way for fresh elections and the swearing-in of new local government chairmen and councillors.

It further accused the Attorney General of overstepping his constitutional limits by allegedly seeking to reinstate the ousted officials through control of council finances.

“A country that does not respect the judiciary is digging its own grave,” the union declared, warning that such actions could destabilize Osun State and possibly trigger a declaration of emergency rule.

NULGE assured its members that it would continue to pursue legal and peaceful measures to safeguard local government assets. It also urged Osun residents to remain calm and support Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration in sustaining peace and order.
