The Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) has extended support to persons with disabilities (PWDs) and children in motherless homes with donations of food items, beverages, toiletries, baby clothing, and cash in Ukwa West, Umuahia, and Aba.

Speaking during the presentation at Obehie, Ukwa West LGA, the General Manager of the Commission, Dr. Joshua Onyeike, represented by the Director of Social Welfare, Mrs. Amarachi Isaac-Nwachukwu, said the gesture was inspired by Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to the welfare of oil-producing communities and vulnerable groups. He assured that the Commission would continue to prioritize interventions that uplift the physically challenged and less privileged.

Dr. Onyeike highlighted ASOPADEC’s ongoing community projects, including the construction of roads, civic centers, school blocks, hospitals, and market stalls, as well as agricultural input distribution, urging residents to sustain their loyalty and support for the present administration.

At Ahiaeke Umuahia North and Ngwa Road Motherless Babies’ Homes, Mrs. Isaac-Nwachukwu explained that the donations were part of the Commission’s humanitarian drive to complement Governor Otti’s vision of care for disadvantaged children. She commended the managers of the homes for their dedication to humanitarian service.

In appreciation, Mr. John Ndudim, leader of the Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities in Ukwa West LGA, thanked Governor Otti and Dr. Onyeike, while calling for greater inclusion of PWDs in ASOPADEC’s programs. Similarly, Rev. Sister Lauretta and Mr. Ugbusu of the motherless homes expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as a sign of compassion and remembrance.

Highlights of the event included the distribution of food, beverages, clothing, and cash, with children at Ahiaeke Homes offering thanksgiving songs to close the ceremony.
