Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has debunked a viral report linking him to a fictitious ₦1 trillion fraud case, describing it as a baseless fabrication.

Ikpeazu said the publication was a poorly concocted story without any trace of truth. He pointed out that there is no judge in Nigeria by the name “Justice Chukwuemeka Nwogu,” who was falsely credited with delivering the alleged judgment.

He further explained that the total allocation received by Abia State during his eight-year tenure did not amount to ₦500 billion, let alone ₦1 trillion as claimed.

“This is not news, it is laughable. No judge in Nigeria bears the name Justice Chukwuemeka Nwogu. Abia’s allocation in my eight years never got to ₦500 billion. So, where is the ₦1 trillion they claimed I stole coming from? When was the trial conducted?” he queried.

Ikpeazu also stressed that, under Nigerian law, fraud is not classified as a capital offence warranting the death penalty, questioning the logic of the false report.

“Even if fraud was committed, is the punishment death by hanging? People should be mindful of the kind of stories they push out to the public,” he added.

The former governor urged Nigerians to disregard the circulating report, describing it as a deliberate attempt by mischief-makers to mislead the public and tarnish his image.
