Apple Pulls ICE-Tracking Apps Amid U.S. Government Pressure and Safety Concerns

Apple has removed several mobile apps that allowed users to anonymously track the movements of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, reportedly after pressure from the Trump administration.

The apps, which gained popularity as President Donald Trump’s deportation crackdown intensified across U.S. cities, faced criticism from officials who argued they endangered law enforcement personnel.

Concerns grew after a deadly shooting at an ICE facility in Texas last month, where investigators believe the attacker had used one of the tracking apps in the days leading up to the incident. The shooting left two detainees dead and another injured, though authorities say the primary target was ICE officers.

Protests have erupted nationwide at ICE detention centers and during enforcement operations, as the administration’s mass deportation campaign has led to thousands of arrests, often carried out by masked agents.

One of the most widely used apps, ICEBlock, was no longer available on Apple’s App Store as of Thursday evening, AFP confirmed. Fox Business first reported the removal, citing Attorney General Pam Bondi, who said the Justice Department had formally demanded Apple take down the app.

In a statement to NBC News, Apple said:
“Based on information we’ve received from law enforcement about the safety risks associated with ICEBlock, we have removed it and similar apps from the App Store.”

The company has yet to issue further public comment.
