Army Officer Dies After Alleged Domestic Fire Attack in Akwa Ibom Barracks

A Nigerian Army officer, identified as Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has reportedly died following severe burns sustained during a domestic altercation with his wife at the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Akwa Ibom State.

The tragic event was said to have occurred around September 22, 2025. Lieutenant Haruna, who served as a Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) with the 6 Battalion, was immediately taken to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries days later.

According to reports by several media outlets, including Naija News and The Star NG, the officer’s wife allegedly set him ablaze during a heated argument. However, official confirmation from the Nigerian Army is yet to be released.

Authorities have reportedly detained the suspect as investigations into the incident continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shocking domestic tragedy.
