President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Abuja following his participation in the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government-level Meeting held in Rome, Italy. The summit brought together world leaders to strengthen international cooperation in combating terrorism and violent extremism.

Tinubu, who left Nigeria on October 12 for the meeting that began on October 14, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional and global security partnerships during the high-level sessions. His return was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The Aqaba Process, established in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan, is a global counterterrorism initiative co-chaired by Jordan and Italy. This year’s edition, held at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, focused on enhancing collaboration in the fight against terrorism, particularly in West Africa. Attendees included leaders from Jordan, Italy, Nigeria, Chad, Paraguay, Sierra Leone, and Togo, as well as senior officials from Algeria, Senegal, Uzbekistan, and other nations.

On the sidelines of the event, President Tinubu engaged in bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and U.S. Senior Adviser on Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, discussing security and economic cooperation. He also met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin to promote religious harmony and counter false narratives about intolerance in Nigeria. Tinubu’s participation, according to the Presidency, underscores his administration’s dedication to global peace and security diplomacy.
