Wema Bank has awarded ₦4.5 million worth of prizes to the winners of its 2025 Wema @ 80 Teachers’ Day Campaign, celebrating educators who have made lasting contributions to society.

In a statement on Tuesday, the bank said the award ceremony took place at its headquarters in Marina, Lagos, under the theme “Celebrating Teachers with a Legacy of Impact.” The initiative aimed to recognise and reward teachers whose dedication and influence have helped shape generations of students.

Wema Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, described teachers as “unsung heroes” whose tireless commitment to nurturing young minds strengthens communities and builds nations. “As we celebrate 80 years of empowering people and creating positive impact, we are proud to honour educators who inspire and transform lives,” Oseni said.

The top winners were Abraham Ngobiri, founder of Teens-Train, who received ₦2 million; Mrs. Esther Adesada, founder of Heritage X Foundation, who took home ₦1.5 million; and Ms. Taiwo Alabi, founder of Educycle, who won ₦1 million. They expressed gratitude to the bank, describing the recognition as both motivating and validating for their work in education.

Launched in September 2025, the Wema @ 80 Teachers’ Day Campaign invited students and alumni to share 80-second videos celebrating exceptional teachers. From ten finalists, three emerged winners after a rigorous selection process. Since its inception, the campaign has evolved into a national movement, with over ₦20 million invested in prizes and mentorship programmes, impacting more than 3,000 students and 10 schools across Nigeria.
