The Federal Government has restated its resolve to fast-track the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through reforms anchored on equity, innovation, and a more resilient health system.

Speaking at the 66th National Council on Health (NCH) meeting in Calabar, Cross River State, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom, highlighted the significance of the gathering, themed “My health, my right: Accelerating universal health coverage through equity, resilience, and innovation.”

Kachollom, who chaired the technical session, said the government is strengthening primary healthcare, overhauling supply chain systems, improving accountability frameworks, and enhancing data use for evidence-based decisions. She stressed the need to keep citizens at the centre of health policies to rebuild public trust and drive real progress toward UHC.

In his remarks, Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, stressed the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in building a stronger health system. He noted that the 66th NCH carries major implications for improving health outcomes, reducing financial burdens, and promoting equity. He added that the technical session is expected to produce actionable memos that will boost progress toward UHC by ensuring sufficient health workers, quality medicines, and functional infrastructure across the country.
