The Sokoto State Government has approved the hiring of 2,440 community health workers who will be deployed across Primary Healthcare Centres in all 244 wards of the state.

The initiative, carried out in partnership with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, is designed to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots and fill critical manpower shortages in PHCs.

In a statement on Monday, the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Abubakar Bawa, said the decision aligns with the administration’s commitment to reducing unemployment and creating meaningful job opportunities for citizens.

Bawa noted that the deployment will significantly expand access to essential healthcare services, reaffirming the state government’s dedication to improving frontline medical care in rural and semi-urban areas. He added that details of the recruitment process and application guidelines will be announced soon by the state recruitment committee.

This approval represents one of Sokoto’s most substantial health workforce engagements in recent years and is expected to enhance maternal and child healthcare, disease surveillance, and community-based interventions.
