Federal Government Opens Applications for National Health Fellows Programme

The Federal Government, through the National Health Fellows (NHF) Programme, is inviting qualified young Nigerians to apply for its next cohort of fellows, who will contribute to strengthening primary healthcare across the country.

Launched to address persistent gaps in Nigeria’s healthcare system, the NHF Programme trains and deploys young professionals to local health facilities, enabling them to drive impactful community-level health interventions. The initiative, backed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, targets Nigerians aged 25 to 35 with degrees in health sciences, social sciences, and related disciplines.

Selected fellows will benefit from structured training, mentorship, and practical field placements across all 774 local government areas. They will work directly to improve health outcomes, promote healthier communities, and gain hands-on experience in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, highlighted that the programme aims to “develop a pipeline of healthcare leaders through strategic capacity building, professional development, and field engagement.” Interested candidates are encouraged to apply via the National Health Fellows website before the deadline on 30 November 2025.

Operating under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (SWAp Coordination Office), the NHF Programme brings together professionals from diverse fields—including health, IT, and social sciences—offering comprehensive training, mentorship, and leadership development to nurture a new generation of health leaders.
