Kogi State Sets Example with Early Adoption of Harmonised Tax Law

Kogi State has taken a significant step in Nigeria’s tax reform agenda by adopting the Harmonised Taxes and Levies Law, earning praise from the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

The committee described the move as a progressive measure to modernise the nation’s tax system, reduce multiple taxation, and simplify revenue collection processes.

As one of the first states to implement the harmonised framework, Kogi is setting a benchmark for others, promoting transparency, enhancing taxpayer confidence, and fostering a more business-friendly environment.

By aligning its tax administration with national standards, the state aims to tackle issues like fragmented tax practices, illegal levies, and revenue leakages.

State officials say the reforms will boost internally generated revenue while demonstrating Kogi’s commitment to efficient and transparent governance that supports sustainable economic growth.
