At a high-profile political gathering in Yola, former Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo commended activist and ex-presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore for his role in resisting military rule after the annulment of Nigeria’s June 12, 1993 election. Adebayo described Sowore as a fearless young voice prepared to risk his life during the struggle for democratic restoration.
The event brought together several leading political figures, where Adebayo recalled Sowore’s involvement in street protests and resistance campaigns at a time when many others chose silence. He said Sowore’s actions stood out for their passion and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals.
In his address, Adebayo also criticised the current federal government’s leadership, calling it “directionless” and failing to offer a clear vision amid worsening economic and social conditions.
Other participants at the gathering used the occasion to discuss political realignments and priorities ahead of upcoming elections, with some urging voters to focus on candidates who offer meaningful plans for development rather than personality-driven politics.
