Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has emphasised his commitment to defending the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from internal threats and closely observing political developments within the party’s Oyo State branch. He made the remarks during a National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, where party members gathered to discuss ongoing organisational issues.
Wike said his concern extends beyond any single region, outlining that his focus is on the overall stability and future success of the PDP nationwide. He dismissed claims that members were being intimidated, insisting that recent legal rulings had weakened attempts to undermine the party.
Addressing internal disputes, Wike warned against what he described as efforts by individuals he called “vampires” to take over the party’s structure in states across the country. He urged party members to stay united and support the Caretaker Committee as it leads preparations for overdue congresses and an upcoming national convention.
The minister also encouraged PDP members to return to grassroots mobilisation, stressing that political strength comes from active engagement at the ward and local levels rather than relying solely on elected officeholders.
