Anambra Government Orders Onitsha Main Market to Reopen, Commercial Activities Resume Monday

The Anambra State Government has officially lifted the closure of Onitsha Main Market, allowing traders to resume full operations starting Monday, February 3, 2026.

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s administration confirmed that the market shutdown has ended, and all traders are expected to reopen and continue business as usual. The government stressed that there will no longer be a sit-at-home restriction on Mondays in the state.

Authorities assured residents of continued security measures and urged the public to report any suspicious activities immediately through the state’s emergency line. Civil servants and teachers were reminded that the pro-rata salary system remains active, and absences on Mondays may lead to loss of pay.

Parents were also cautioned to ensure children attend school on Mondays to avoid sanctions. The announcement reinforces the Soludo administration’s efforts to restore normalcy, boost commerce, and maintain law and order across Anambra State.
