Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu has emphasised the need for more robust cooperation with the World Bank Group to drive major development goals in Africa’s largest city.
Speaking at a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Anna Bjerde, the institution’s Managing Director for Operations, Sanwo‑Olu said Lagos is eager to attract increased investment into key areas such as energy, agriculture, tourism, and skills development.
The governor highlighted the state’s recent reforms, noting that Lagos climbed from 29th to first place in the national Ease of Doing Business rankings over four years, a performance he said positions the state well for new partnerships aimed at improving infrastructure and living standards.
Officials from the World Bank praised the progress and signalled willingness to support deeper engagement, including long‑term reviews and strategies to boost private sector financing across priority sectors.
