Nurses’ Body Demands Investigation into Misrepresentation of Healthcare Worker

The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has called on authorities to investigate a recent media interview that it says misled the public by suggesting an ‘auxiliary nurse’ was practising without legal qualification — a category the forum insists does not exist under Nigerian healthcare law.

In a statement, the group criticised comments made on a popular talk show, arguing that the broadcast created confusion about the status of nursing professionals and could harm public trust in healthcare services.

According to the forum, only registered and licensed nurses should be recognised as qualified practitioners in Nigeria, and it has urged regulatory bodies to clarify legal standards and hold media outlets accountable for accurate reporting.

ENF’s appeal follows growing concerns within the nursing community about unverified claims and the spread of misleading titles or roles that are not recognised under the country’s professional licensing framework. The forum also called for stronger public education on the difference between qualified healthcare workers and individuals without official registration, to protect patients and safeguard the integrity of the nursing profession.
