The All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved a 60/40 leadership-sharing arrangement in Kano State following the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the Kwankwasiyya faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling party.

The agreement is aimed at integrating Governor Yusuf and his supporters into the APC structure while maintaining balance within the party’s existing leadership framework in the state.

Under the new formula, 60 per cent of party leadership positions will be allocated to Governor Yusuf and members of the Kwankwasiyya bloc who defected with him, while 40 per cent will remain with the established APC structure in Kano.

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, confirmed the development during his maiden official visit to Governor Yusuf at the Kano State Government House. He explained that the arrangement was designed to foster unity, inclusiveness, and effective collaboration among party stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by prominent party figures, including former APC National Chairman and ex-Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin; and other key stakeholders.

Yilwatda expressed delight at the massive turnout of party supporters at the event, describing it as a strong indication of renewed enthusiasm within the APC in Kano. He noted that the growing unity would strengthen support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and enhance the party’s electoral prospects in future contests.

He also commended Yusuf Gawuna and Senator Barau Jibrin for subordinating personal ambitions in the interest of building a cohesive and formidable APC in the state. The party chairman further praised Dr. Ganduje for his leadership and contributions to strengthening party structures in Kano.

In his remarks, Governor Yusuf lauded the APC leadership for promoting inclusiveness and encouraging harmony within the party. He pledged to collaborate with all party organs and stakeholders to ensure sustained unity and development in Kano State.

The governor added that the impressive show of solidarity at the meeting demonstrated the readiness of APC members in Kano to work collectively for the advancement of the party and the well-being of the people, in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
