President Tinubu Moves to Confirm Tunji Disu as Nigeria’s IGP

President Bola Tinubu has called a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider making Tunji Disu the substantive Inspector‑General of Police. Disu has been serving in an acting capacity since the departure of his predecessor, and the council’s approval is a key step toward cementing his leadership.

The move follows the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, creating a temporary leadership gap in the Nigeria Police Force. Disu, a veteran officer with extensive experience, was appointed acting IGP to maintain continuity and stability within the force.

During the upcoming council session, members will evaluate Disu’s performance and track record before recommending his appointment to the Senate for confirmation, as required by law. This formal process is necessary to make his position permanent and ensure he has full authority to lead the police.

Officials say the appointment is part of broader efforts to strengthen national security and enhance the operational efficiency of the police, particularly as the country continues to face complex security challenges across multiple regions.
