Student Loan Deadline Extended as Demand for NELFUND Support Surges

Nigeria’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has moved the closing date for its 2025/2026 student loan portal, giving hopeful applicants extra time to complete and submit their forms. The extension was introduced in response to a sharp rise in submissions and to make room for those who were still finalising their documents before the revised deadline.

The loan scheme — established to provide interest‑free financial support for tuition and living expenses to students in public tertiary institutions — has seen student interest swell since applications opened, leading the fund to adjust timelines so more eligible candidates can benefit.

Under the new schedule, applicants are urged to finish their registration and upload all necessary information before the updated cut‑off date, helping ensure they’re considered for loan disbursements covering both tuition and upkeep allowances for the academic year.

Officials say this move is aimed at reducing barriers for students facing challenges in meeting earlier deadlines, allowing a broader group to take part in the programme and pursue higher education without financial stress.

With the application period now extended, awareness campaigns and reminders have ramped up to encourage students who haven’t yet applied to take advantage of the additional time before the portal finally closes.
