Insecurity Forces Ondo Nurses to Consider Halting Night Duties

Healthcare workers in Ondo State have warned they may stop all night duties unless stronger security measures are put in place, following a violent raid on a government clinic in Akure. The attack has left nurses shaken and raised serious concerns about safety at medical facilities.

The raid occurred late at night at the Oke Ijebu Health Centre, where armed assailants attacked staff on duty, abducted some, and stole cash and other property from the facility. Many employees were left traumatized by the incident.

Union leaders said the attack exposes the growing insecurity in the state capital, particularly in areas previously considered safe. Most health centres have only minimal security, leaving staff vulnerable during late hours.

In response, the nurses’ association urged the state government to improve protection at public health facilities. They warned that if security is not strengthened, a full withdrawal from night shifts could be enforced, putting both staff and patients at risk.
