Amid rising conflict between Israel and Iran, Jerusalem’s traditional Palm Sunday celebrations were significantly scaled back this year. Authorities cancelled the customary procession marking the start of Holy Week, citing serious security concerns as tensions in the region continue to mount.

Top Catholic leaders, including the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, were prevented by police from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to celebrate Palm Sunday Mass. Church officials described the restrictions as unprecedented, emphasizing the extraordinary nature of the current security situation.

Major religious sites in the city remain closed or subject to strict access limits due to threats linked to the ongoing hostilities. Worshippers have been forced to adapt, holding prayers in smaller groups or at alternative locations to avoid potential dangers.

The suspension of the mass procession and limited access to sacred spaces highlight how deeply the regional conflict has affected communal and religious life in Jerusalem during one of Christianity’s most significant observances.
