President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his condolences to former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, following the death of his wife, Hajiya Hadiza Jega.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President at the Janazah prayer held at the National Mosque in Abuja, conveyed Tinubu’s sympathy to the bereaved family during the ceremony.

In his condolence message, the President described the late Hajiya Hadiza as a woman of dignity and resilience who provided unwavering support to her husband throughout his years of public service, particularly during his tenure as INEC Chairman.

He also acknowledged her quiet but meaningful contributions to education and community development, noting that her life was marked by compassion, strength, and a commitment to the well-being of others.

Prof. Attahiru Jega, a renowned academic and former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, gained national prominence as INEC Chairman between 2010 and 2015, where he led key electoral reforms and supervised the 2015 general elections, widely regarded as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey. He currently serves as Special Adviser to the President on Livestock Development.

Meanwhile, Bayero University, Kano, officially announced the passing of Hajiya Hadiza in a statement released via its social media platforms. The institution expressed deep sorrow, describing her death as a great loss.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega,” the statement read.
